Mother of Graves have released their third album, «The Light That Keeps Us». It is a melodic death/doom record from Indianapolis, built around heavy atmosphere and melancholic melodies.

Country: USA
Style: Melodic death/doom
For fans of: Katatonia, October Tide, My Dying Bride

The band came together around 2019, with members who had passed through acts such as Harakiri, Summon the Destroyer and Obscene. Chris Morrison and Ben Sandman handle the guitars, with Sandman also credited for the production, and the choice to keep the recording in their own hands gives the sound a clear, warm picture.

The album has eight tracks and runs for about 46 minutes, with most of them sitting between four and five minutes. The longest ones are placed at the start and at the end, so the listen keeps a natural flow. The opener «Wingless Soul» stands out: it carries a guest appearance by Dan Swanö and an outburst in the final minutes that sets the tone for everything that follows.

The band works in ground that is familiar from the 1990s — the melodic side of Katatonia, October Tide and My Dying Bride — but it puts the weight on melody and on song structure rather than on long running times. Their earlier records, «Where the Shadows Adorn» (2022) and «The Periapt of Absence» (2024), had already pointed the same way; here the sound feels more direct.
