Selenoplexia, from Illinois in the United States, released their second album, «Beneath the Lunar Tyrant», on 9 October 2026, independently and in six tracks that come close to thirty-seven minutes. The debut «Exalt and Despair» had a denser, almost suffocating sound around death metal, while here the band chooses a more organic sound and gives the instruments more room.
“`Country: USA (Illinois)
Genre: Atmospheric Black Metal, Blackened Death Metal, Doom Metal, Progressive Death Metal
For fans of: Horrendous, Blood Incantation, Mother of Graves, Tomb Mold, Replicant
Three things are clearly heard together in the sound: black metal, doom and post metal. Jonathan on drums moves from fast bursts to slow, heavy passages, and the cymbals keep filling the gaps. Courtney Vida screams high and at some points drops into a deep voice, over Daniel Vida’s bright, trembling guitars. On «The Battle of Agretes» the voice lowers and the guitars become more rhythmic, without the change sounding abrupt. On «Ruins of Taivaraseem» a quiet acoustic opening gives way to clean vocals.
The six compositions run one after another without long gaps: the atmospheric «Prologue» opens the album and the eleven-minute «Passing Through the Wounds of Abraxas» closes it, so on listening it feels more like a single night than six separate songs. Sawyer Fridel is on bass and backing vocals, Jonathan on keyboards, and the cover art is by Adam Burke.
