The Swedish prog metallers SOEN present the third single «Discordia» from their upcoming studio album «Reliance», which will be released on January 16, 2026 via Silver Lining Music. The track comes with an official video and reveals yet another side of the record, after «Primal» and «Mercenary».
What «Discordia» is about
«Discordia» is a song built on the tension between the need for human contact and the pull toward isolation. SOEN play with darker textures here, letting the track move from introverted, almost silent passages to bursts of intensity. According to what Martin Lopez has said, the song came out of the band’s attempt to push their sound into darker, more emotionally charged paths, capturing the fall from self-protection toward alienation. Joel Ekelöf has stressed that the lyrics and the atmosphere revolve around that inner conflict: we want to connect, but at the same time we build walls so we don’t get hurt.
Sound & atmosphere
On «Discordia», SOEN continue their familiar blend of progressive metal with strong melody and heavy, modern production. The guitars build a dark backdrop, the drums keep a steady but dynamic pulse, and Ekelöf’s vocals move between calm, almost whispered lines and peaks that emotionally “open up” the song. The result is a track that doesn’t rely on power alone, but also on atmosphere: sometimes suffocating, sometimes redemptive.

The record was recorded, mixed and produced by Alexander Backlund at Fascination Street Studios, while the mastering was done by Tony Lindgren. Why you should listen
«Discordia» is ideal for anyone who wants something more than a simple single. If you’re into prog metal with weight, melody and an emphasis on feeling, this track clearly points to where «Reliance» is heading. It isn’t a display of technique, but a song that stands firmly on the clash between light and dark, both musically and lyrically.
