Trivium have announced their next album. «Crown In The Grave» is the band’s eleventh album and will be released on 20 November by Roadrunner Records. The line-up is Matthew K. Heafy on vocals and guitar, Corey Beaulieu on guitar, Paolo Gregoletto on bass and Alex Rüdinger on drums.
“`Along with the announcement, Trivium also shared the title track. «Crown In The Grave» builds slowly from layered guitars and ends in a heavy, aggressive wall of sound. It has all the band’s familiar elements: fast riffs, big solos, heavy drums and vocals in three layers.
The song’s video is inspired by Japanese Noh theatre and has a post-apocalyptic mood. It is directed by Pavel Trebukhin and the action unfolds in a smoke-filled dojo, where the heroes prepare for an impending showdown.
Behind the album is Akira Kurosawa’s «Throne of Blood», his adaptation of «Macbeth» set in feudal Japan. Paolo Gregoletto says the film led them to Japanese horror and the cinema of the ’50s, ’60s and ’70s, and from there came a darker, haunted atmosphere that shaped the music, the lyrics and the cover. As he explains, they wanted to build on what they have learned without staying in the past.
The album was recorded for the first time in their own studio, The Hangar in Orlando. On drums it is now officially Alex Rüdinger, who came very close to joining the band in 2015 but chose a different path at the time. Josh Wilbur produced again, while for the mix they worked with Jacob Hansen for the first time. Corey Beaulieu says they made the record they had wanted for a long time, with big riffs and catchy choruses, looking at ’90s albums such as Metallica’s «The Black Album», Megadeth’s «Countdown to Extinction» and Soundgarden’s «Superunknown».
