Power Trip have released the double single «Precinct 3» and «Scavenger», their first new recordings since the death of singer Riley Gale in 2020. The new album will arrive in the spring of 2027.
“`On vocals is Seth Gilmore, an old friend who has been singing with them live since late 2023. He also plays in Skourge and in Fugitive, the Dallas thrash outfit he formed in 2021 with Power Trip guitarist Blake Ibanez.
The release comes out on their new label Blue Grape Music, with a music video for «Precinct 3» directed by Eric Richter. The tracks were recorded at Empire Sound in Texas with Danish producer Jacob Hansen and Ibanez co-producing; drummer Chris Ulsh says Hansen knows how to make big albums without losing the late-80s underground feel.
«Precinct 3» runs at 205 beats per minute and deals with the dangers of unchecked power, a theme inspired by the current political climate. Ibanez said they thought about what Gale would have written: «The lyrics just flowed and it felt right, to start the new chapter and honour him».
«Scavenger» is mid-tempo, in the vein of older tracks like «Soul Sacrifice» and «Crossbreaker». Gilmore wrote the lyrics about people who latch onto other people’s work and take the credit without the effort.
The two songs also come out as a limited seven-inch single, while a Record Store Day Black Friday edition with different artwork will be sold at independent record shops on 27 November 2026.
Power Trip have been working on the album for over a year. Gale died on 25 August 2020, aged 34; his last studio record with them was Nightmare Logic (2017).
Ibanez, guitarist Nick Stewart, Ulsh and bassist Chris Whetzel first played with Gilmore at an unannounced set at Austin’s Mohawk on 1 December 2023. In early 2025 they opened for Pantera in Europe.
In 2026 they have three more shows, among them Slayer’s concert in Mexico City for the 40 years of Reign In Blood:
