Godsmack frontman Sully Erna has gathered members of Disturbed, Extreme, Aerosmith, Staind and Three Days Grace for a one-off show in Florida, with the proceeds going to the charity he founded himself, The Scars Foundation.
“`The The Scars Foundation Celebrity Jam takes place on Thursday 10 December at Hard Rock Live at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, in Hollywood, Florida. Godsmack headline, while Disturbed singer David Draiman, Extreme guitarist Nuno Bettencourt and Aerosmith guitarist Brad Whitford will take the stage. Members of Staind and Three Days Grace fill out the bill, and more guests are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
The money raised will support the foundation’s work around mental health, addiction awareness and suicide prevention. Erna explained why the cause is personal to him: «The Scars Foundation was built on a simple truth: none of us should have to carry our pain alone. Having lost many friends and colleagues to addiction and suicide, I knew I had to use my position to help. On 10 December we will stand together, share our stories and remind people that their life and their voice matter. Music heals, and when we use it to lift each other up, it can save lives».
The foundation launched in April 2019 with the aim of offering awareness and support to people struggling with mental health issues, suicidal thoughts, addiction and abuse. In 2020 Erna put together «Live From The Living Room», an online concert for the same cause, with members of Staind, Shinedown and Papa Roach taking part. Tickets for the Florida night went on sale on 13 October through Ticketmaster and the Seminole Hard Rock Hollywood box office, while anyone who cannot be there can donate directly on the foundation’s website.
The show is one of several Godsmack appearances in December. The band turned a new page this year with Mike Mangini on drums, after the departures of Shannon Larkin and Tony Rombola. They will also play a casino in Hanover, Maryland on 27 December and in Cherokee, North Carolina on 29 December, before closing the year at Southwest Florida New Year’s Rockin’ Eve. Erna has said new Godsmack music is expected by the summer of 2027.
