Temple Nightside come from Australia and play blackened death metal buried in fog and short of light. «Cenotaph Severance» is their fifth album, eight tracks long, and it arrived in 2026.
“`Country: Australia
Genre: Blackened death metal
For fans of: Incantation, Grave Upheaval, Slugathor
The band formed around 2010 through IV, known from Austere and Funeral Mourning, and drummer Basilysk. In the early years the sound was slower and more ritualistic, with the debut «Condemnation» in 2013 and «The Hecatomb» in 2016.
On the new record the line-up has changed: Ignus Fatuus of Impetuous Ritual and Portal came in on guitar, and B.R. of Grave Upheaval took over part of the vocals. The result sets three guitar lines in conversation, something clearly audible in the opener «Seething Dissolve».
«Sunken in Charnel Entrails» leans further towards black metal, with tremolo and speed, while «The Slow Embalming of the Will» and «Soul Defilement» carry the heaviest moment of the album. In the second half «Within Sepulchered Walls» keeps quieter passages and whispers, and «Desolation Utterance» is the track with the strongest sense of threat.
The album was recorded to sound like a large chamber with a long reverb tail, without losing the punch of the drums. Anyone who loves dark, slow blackened death will find something familiar here, with more attention to detail — and close to what Lugubrious Garment do.
The album is not on the band’s Bandcamp, nor on any of the pages we checked, so there is no album player for «Cenotaph Severance». The older release above stands in the text so that the band’s sound can still be heard.
The same dark corner is occupied by NEKUS / BLOODSOAKED NECROVOID, and by Selenoplexia with «Beneath the Lunar Tyrant».
