Spirit Possession come from Portland, Oregon, and on 2 October 2026 they release their third album, «Cathedral Speech», through Profound Lore Records. It is a duo playing first-wave black metal, with strong elements of speed, thrash and heavy metal, and the new work builds seven tracks around a dark, ritualistic atmosphere.

The duo was formed in 2019 by guitarist and vocalist S. Peacock (Ulthar, Black Curse, Mastery) and drummer A. Spungin (Ormus), who also handles the synthesizers. The album was recorded at S•P Dungeon and mixed at The New Menegroth (The Thousand Caves), while the cover artwork is by Luciana Lupe Vasconselos.

The «Cathedral Speech» has seven tracks. The first four work as a short «descent into madness» and the last three join together into a long suite that fills the whole second side. These are tracks that develop rather than repeat, with tempo changes and electric, charged guitars.

The sound moves between swirling guitars and explosive drums, keeping the impulsive, first-wave black/death character the band has, while at the same time opening up towards more expansive, seventies compositions. The title track opens the record and the second side gives the feeling of one single, long journey.

1. Cathedral Speech
2. Backward Commandments
3. Hanged Angels as Patternwalls
4. The Sharpening
5. First Levitation (Accursed Entrances…)
6. Second Liturgy (…Impossible Exits…)
7. Trinity Possessor (…In Ten Thousand Hells)

It is the follow-up to «Of the Sign…» from 2023 and the band keeps its identity, adding more depth and detail to its sound.
