REVIEW | Metal Territory
Ruyned return with Profanum Sacrificium, an album that makes it clear how fast a band can evolve when it has vision, talent and absolute dedication to speed/black metal. The album is short, direct and full of energy, yet at the same time more mature, better crafted and more focused than anything they had released so far.
The band started in 2023 with a demo that showed its intentions: dirty, fast, blasphemous speed metal. Eternal Torment (2024) laid the foundations, but Profanum Sacrificium is the point where Ruyned truly find their character. The production is cleaner, the riffs sharper, the vocals more intelligible and the overall picture far more professional.
The album is split into two thematic sides. The first deals with the notorious serial killer Peter Kürten, while the second dives into the European witch trials. This dual theme gives the album a sense of continuity and narrative, without becoming overly concept‑driven.
Musically, Profanum Sacrificium is an ode to mid‑80s speed metal, but with enough blackened character that it doesn’t sound anachronistic. The riffs are fast, aggressive and full of attitude. “Sex Commander 666” brings a more melodic side, while “Orgasm Through Death” is one of the strongest tracks on the record, with a mid‑tempo black metal mood and a climax that truly lifts the song.
The second side of the record is even more interesting. The title track “Profanum Sacrificium” is cleaner and stronger than its demo version, while “Malleus Maleficarum” and “Witches Gallöw” show a band starting to play with more complex ideas, without losing the speed and aggression that defines it. Here Ruyned approach the level of Blackevil and Hexecutor, without becoming prog or overly technical.
Profanum Sacrificium is an album that goes down in one gulp. It’s fast, sharp, well crafted and full of character. Ruyned show they aren’t just another speed/black band — they have personality, they have direction and they’ve already made a huge leap forward.
