REVIEW | Metal Territory
Morgal return after five years with The Seventh Circle, an album that makes it clear how much they’ve sharpened their sound. The band remains faithful to the black/speed metal style that made them known, but this time the result is more melodic, more aggressive and “heavier” than any previous work of theirs.
“Stormchaser” opens the record with an immediate attack. Fast, sharp and full of energy, it immediately shows that Morgal have returned stronger.
“Tales of Woland” continues with the same momentum. The guitars move in tempos that recall mid‑90s melodic black metal, while the drumming is among the most impressive points of the record.
“Goddess of Death” is the most complete track of the first side. Here Morgal combine heavy/speed metal melodies with black metal aggression, creating one of the most distinctive points of the album.
“Blessed in Hell” brings the speed metal element to the fore again, with riffs that recall second‑wave black metal but with more modern production.
“Harbinger’s Ritual” has a darker atmosphere and moves along more Finnish black metal lines, with nice build‑up and strong guitars.
“The Damned from the Seventh Circle” closes the record in the most imposing way. Big, epic, full of intensity and melodies that tie in perfectly with the aggressive riffing. It’s the track that unites all of Morgal’s elements into a powerful finale.
The Seventh Circle is an album that flies by, without needless parts and without weak moments. Morgal show they can evolve their sound without losing their identity, offering one of the strongest black/speed metal albums of the year.
