The band started as a trio around 2011, with Fredrik Bolzann (ex-Darvulia, ex-Sektarism) joined by the rhythm section of avant-grind act Artemisia Absinthium, aiming at an occult stoner doom. The debut «Witchthroat Serpent» (2014) was raw and ritualistic, with echo-laden vocals and slow, torturous doom riffs. Albums with a cleaner production followed, such as «Trove of Oddities at the Devil’s Driveway» (2023).
On the new album the sound was recorded by Christophe Chavanon at Kerwax Studio. The opener «Cursed Night Circle» is dark and menacing, with a main riff that keeps the intensity high, while «Silver Bell of Ritual» drops the tempo into sparse, heavy passages. «Lost Dimension» and the slower, sludgier «The Blinded Magpie» are the peak of the record.
The album builds its intensity slowly, but manages to pull it back before it slips away, keeping the listener in a dark, ritualistic trance. The production is warm and analogue, with plenty of space around the instruments. The record closes with «The Zany Magician», a cover of a track by German prog rockers Eloy, turned down a more doom path. Six tracks, 37 minutes.
