Shy, Low come from Virginia in the United States and play instrumental post-metal with a strong interest in rhythm. «Purity Spiral» is their new album, seven tracks, released on 16 October 2026 by Pelagic Records.
“`Country: USA (Virginia)
Genre: Post-metal, post-rock (instrumental)
For fans of: If These Trees Could Talk, Russian Circles, Lost in Kyiv, Oh Hiroshima
The album opens with «Grace» and closes with «Greenwood», passing through «The Bloat», «Palmistry», «Burning Fields», «The Charging, Brazen Bull» and the title track «Purity Spiral». There are no vocals: the guitar builds themes and the drums hold the rhythm through constant changes.
Compared with «Snake Behind the Sun» from 2021, the new record has a tighter structure: the tracks do not stretch into endless crescendos but change meters and return to patterns set up early on. The production keeps the guitars clean even in the heavy passages.
The cover is by Dylan Partridge. Anyone who loves organic ensembles with patience in the flow will find something close to what Grant The Sun or Hippotraktor do, with less metal weight and more sense of space.
The band puts the drummer at the top of the credits, and not by accident: here the rhythm does not accompany, it leads. In several places the meters shift without warning and the piece comes back to its opening theme from another angle.
The material keeps the balance between heavy and airy, without losing the melody when the intensity rises. It is a record for headphones rather than background — the details come forward as it goes on.
The album is available in full on the band’s Bandcamp, in digital and physical form. It also made our roundup of October releases worth your time.
