Likno opened the new season of Alma Matters, the show on the Greek Metal Reactions channel, with a live session and an interview. The duo from Kozani talked about its course, its two albums and how the city defined its sound.
“`Taking part in the conversation were Vangelis (Neuropter), Katerina Flegra, Yannis and Kostas. The subject that dominated was the relationship with the place: the carnival of Kozani, the lamps and the traditional instruments that played until midnight.
As they said, the folk element was never put in as a label. They wanted it to be there as a surprise inside the black metal core, not as the protagonist. «Likno without Kozani would not exist», they noted, describing a band that carries its roots in every song.
The second album, «Summit and Trench», has three long tracks instead of six shorter ones. The choice was deliberate: when they finished the second and the third track, they decided to stop there, so that the release would have coherence and would leave the listener waiting for the next step.
In the early years, Likno had released the self-titled «Likno», with «White Wings» as the last track. The song was written for Tempi: the lyrics were written in the period when the case was in the news and it influenced the whole composition.
For the lyrics, the band deliberately keeps an ambiguity. As they explained, the meaning is also built by the listener, according to their own experiences — and this is part of the work, not a gap.
In the plans there is new material for split releases, with announcements in the coming months. Vangelis also has the dungeon synth project Boodroom, and on 6 and 7 November the two worlds meet at the 2nd Greek Dungeon Synth Festival in Athens and Thessaloniki.
The band has also appeared at Black Temple, while it moves in the same dark corner with acts such as Nordjevel and Temple Nightside.
