France’s MORGUE are back with their sixth full-length, «Herald the Dawn», out on 16 October 2026 via Godz Ov War Productions on vinyl, CD, cassette and digital.
“`Country: France
Style: Death Metal / Grindcore
For fans of: Desanguinate, Disentomb, Septycal Gorge
The MORGUE story began in the late 1990s, and the band became known for their grinding, vicious brand of death metal in their first period, 1997-2005 — with «Artgore» from 2001 standing out. They returned in the late 2010s and have moved steadily since, with the new album standing on the same base but showing more complex writing.
«Herald the Dawn» keeps their grinding and brutal style, adding denser structures and a dark, almost blackened atmosphere that makes it sound threatening without ever losing its momentum. It runs 35 minutes and 38 seconds, across eight tracks: «Vortex of Darkness», «The Abyss I Know», «Obedient to No Will», «To the Bitter End», «Last Supper», «Cursed Be», «Herald the Dawn» and «The Deserted Garden of Eden».
The recording was handled by M. Lobier, who wrote the music and the lyrics, at Ellipsis Audio in northern Gard between March and May 2026; mixing and mastering followed in June with P.E. Marillier. The cover art is by P. Girardi. Playing on the record are M. Lobier (vocals, guitars, drums) and J. Blandino (bass).
Our take
«Herald the Dawn» does not set out to reinvent death metal — it sets out to do it properly, and it gets there. The sound is massive, the rhythmic passages carry weight and the atmosphere keeps you on edge to the end. For anyone after that dirty, relentless version of the genre that is not afraid of fast changes, this one earns a place in the queue.
