Nickelback are not thinking about stopping. That was made clear by their bassist Mike Kroeger in a new interview, adding that, after years of jokes at the band’s expense, some of the memes still make him laugh.
“`We Keep Going While People Turn Up
Speaking to the British Hive Magazine, Kroeger was asked whether anything is left on the band’s bucket list before they close the book. The interviewer had mentioned milestones such as their induction into the Canadian Music Hall Of Fame in 2023. «We have had a great run, the numbers are impressive and we are grateful», he replied, «but right now the goal is simply to keep going — make records, tour. As long as people turn up to the rock shows, we are in».
Asked whether the members have discussed how much longer they can keep the band going, he said no. «I tried to bring it up once and it went nowhere», he explained, stressing that they never look back or too far ahead, but deal with the next step.
The Memes and the Criticism
Nickelback have for years been one of the most frequent targets of online mockery. Kroeger admitted it does affect you somewhat, though it does not change the way the members work or live. According to him, a large part of the criticism is pointless, but some of the memes are genuinely funny — first on his list being «Thickelback», the version where the members appear with very narrow waists and wide behinds in tight jeans.
The New Album and the World Tour
Their 11th album, Everything Under The Sun, comes out on 30 October through Virgin Music Group. It is their first record since Get Rollin’ in 2022, with first single «Rattle The Cage» featuring guitar by John 5. In early October the band announced a world tour for 2027, with British band Don Broco as support.
