Machine Head have released a new song, «Sutures», without any warning, only days after the touring cycle for «UNATØNED» came to an end.
“`«UNATØNED» came out in April 2025 through Nuclear Blast and Imperium Recordings. It runs for roughly 41 minutes and remains the shortest album in the band’s history.
Before the single, Robb Flynn had posted an honest note about the year behind him. In it he counted the changes on the road crew: four drum techs, four monitor engineers, four people on merch, three video people, three booking agents, two guitar techs and seven different guitar players — three of whom never played a live show with the band.
In the same post he wrote about «incredible highs» and «seriously difficult moments»: cancelled flights, bot attacks on their socials, empty rooms, departures and the loss of friends, alongside some of the best shows of their career. He closed it with a line that says it all: «But we fucking did it.»
The band has not said whether «Sutures» opens a new chapter or is a one-off. The previous record was well received, and on stage Machine Head still carry one of the heaviest sets in the genre — the same ground covered by the old school thrash albums that built the genre.
After the release of a surprise single, the usual question is what comes next: a new album, a short run of shows or nothing at all, given that the band has said nothing yet. Until then, «Sutures» is the whole story.
