Tony Iommi has put out a lyric video for «Over The Violent Sun», the track that opens his new solo album «From The Dark», released on Friday 23 October through BMG.
“`It is the guitarist’s first solo work since «Fused» in 2005. Singer Jorn Lande is heard across the whole record and has a writing credit on every song, with bassist Becky Baldwin and drummer Karl Brazil completing the line-up.
Iommi produced it with Mike Exeter, his collaborator and engineer for years. Two singles came before the album: «World Alone» on 29 July and «Stormwatcher» in September — Baldwin had released her own video for «Stormwatcher».
«From The Dark» is out on CD and double vinyl, cut at 45 rpm in four colours across different shops, with a gatefold sleeve. We had already written that the album was made without pressure or deadlines.
Iommi also spoke recently about the «13» sessions with Black Sabbath and Rick Rubin — he called them «awkward» — and about the rehearsals for the final show, where Ozzy Osbourne was brought in to rehearsals with special care.
«From The Dark» is one of those records Iommi kept close: recorded with people he has known for years, without time pressure and with his own control over the production. You can hear it in the result, which keeps the guitar up front without losing the melody.
