“Biomes” is the new album from Norwegian band Grant The Sun: eleven tracks of post-metal and djent, mostly instrumental, with vocals appearing in bursts. It was released in October 2026.
Country: Norway
Genre: Post-metal, djent, progressive metal
For fans of: Tesseract, Meshuggah, The Contortionist, VOLA
The record is built around two alternating images: the damp, dense forest and the barren desert. The music follows the same logic — moving from warm, richly textured guitars to dry, mechanical riffs and back again without losing its flow.
Grant The Sun work with the timbres of djent but do not stop there: the drums keep a calm, steady pulse, the synths fill the gaps, and the vocals enter only when the atmosphere needs to break. It is the same approach we found on Hippotraktor’s “Annihilist”.
Standouts include “All Who Wander” at the start, “Gold” with its more open melodies, and “The Taos Hum” midway through. “Canopy” returns to the forest motif, “Final Breath” holds the heaviest moment, and “Cinder” closes the album. The band handled the production themselves, Daniel Bergstrand mixed it, Lawrence Mackrory mastered it, and the cover is by William Hay.
Our verdict
“Biomes” is not an album for a quick listen: it takes time and quiet. Give it that, and the transition from forest to desert works — and the band’s refusal to fall back on easy crescendos makes the difference.
