Pete Sandoval has confirmed in a new Instagram post that he will not play Morbid Angel songs again, saying that chapter is officially closed.
“`The drummer returned to Morbid Angel material after 12 years away from those songs and says he is happy he played them again. «It was a pleasure to come back and play music that is part of my history and my legacy», he writes, adding that he was glad many fans saw him on those songs again, especially those who had waited years. «I closed that chapter knowing I gave my best on stage, as always».
His decision follows the announcement that he is leaving I Am Morbid and will not take part in the European Morbidfest tour, where the band would play songs from Morbid Angel’s first four albums, from Altars of Madness (1989) to Domination (1995). Sandoval had explained that he no longer felt as connected to the I Am Morbid material, although he remains proud of his contribution to those classic records. His Morbid Angel discography also includes Formulas Fatal to the Flesh (1998), Gateways to Annihilation (2000) and Heretic (2003).
As he had said, he intended the previous I Am Morbid tour to be his last. Messages from fans made him think again, but another drummer had already been hired before he could speak with the band. Now he turns his attention to another part of his legacy: the equipment and memorabilia he has collected over the years. He says he still has plenty of pieces for collectors, stressing that it is not simply used gear and that no one should expect retail prices. The proceeds, he says, support their animals.
His statements come as Terrorizer’s future remains open. He had confirmed the band would continue with changes, making clear, however, that he no longer feels able to work with Vincent. The new line-up has not been announced.
