DEATH KOMMANDER from Edinburgh, Scotland return with The Great Offensive, a new recording of their old material. The band plays old school death metal clearly inspired by Bolt Thrower, with themes centered on war and tanks.
The album essentially re-records their first demo from 2018 (“Summer Offensive ’18”) with the band’s current line-up, and adds two tracks (“Flamethrower” and “The March”) from their first record of 2021. The result is a cleaner and louder sound, without losing the harshness of underground death metal.
Compared to their second record, The Great Offensive sounds more direct and more powerful. DEATH KOMMANDER have done work that honors their roots and gives their best songs the credit they deserve. A solid release, above average, for anyone who loves classic war death metal.
