DEATH KOMMANDER from Edinburgh, Scotland return with The Great Offensive, a new recording of their old material. The band plays old school death metal inspired clearly by Bolt Thrower, with themes around war and tanks.
The album essentially re-records their first demo from 2018 (“Summer Offensive ’18”) with the band’s current line-up, and adds two tracks (“Flamethrower” and “The March”) from their first record from 2021. The result is a cleaner, stronger sound, without losing the rawness of underground death metal.
Compared to their second record, The Great Offensive sounds more direct and louder. DEATH KOMMANDER have done work that honours their roots and gives their best songs the value they deserve. A solid release, above average, for anyone who loves classic war death metal.
