Uncle Acid & The Deadbeats return with «Shapes of Midnight», an album that steps once more into their familiar, dark and cinematic world, but with a cleaner weight on the song and the riff.
Country: England
Genre: Psychedelic Rock / Doom Metal
For fans of: Black Sabbath, Pentagram, The Crazy World of Arthur Brown
The album builds a dark horror story around a village sinking into decay, with the powerful watching from a distance. That image ties in perfectly with the way Uncle Acid set up their sound: dirty guitars, psychedelic atmosphere and a sense that something isn’t right beneath the surface.
«Shapes of Midnight» doesn’t try to be modern by force. It keeps the connection with late 60s / early 70s heavy rock and the doom tradition, yet the songs stay in the mind more easily. The production helps the album sound full, without losing the old, dark feel that brought the band to the fore from the early 2010s.
For those who have followed Uncle Acid since the time they became known through Rise Above Records, here there is a return to the riff and the atmosphere that made them distinctive. It isn’t an album that shouts; it works more underground, with horror images and melodies that stay.
