Dave Mustaine has announced that Megadeth will take Anthrax and Kerry King with them on the next leg of their farewell tour. He said it himself on SiriusXM’s «Trunk Nation With Eddie Trunk», in the episode of 15 October.
“`The tour began back in 2026 and will run for years. According to Mustaine, plenty of places are still ahead: the United States, another return to Europe and the markets of Asia. In two weeks the band leaves for New Zealand and then Australia, while it will also head back to Korea, where it had not played for almost 20 years. India is being considered as well, along with talks about South Africa, a country he very much wants to visit.
The shows with Anthrax and Kerry King have no dates or countries yet. The New Zealand and Australia leg belongs to Iron Maiden’s «Run For Your Lives» tour, where Megadeth are special guests and which opens on 7 November at the Spark Arena in Auckland.
In Europe the shape of the tour changes: after the run with Anthrax and King, Megadeth will go out with Black Label Society and Testament. That tour is called «Breakout: Hibernation Of The Nations», counts 24 shows, starts on 9 March 2027 in Belfast and closes on 13 April in Lisbon, with both bands playing every show.
Mustaine was also asked about the band’s final concert and answered that he does not want to picture it, because it would be a sad way for everything to end. He has Dupuytren’s contracture, which pulls the fingers towards the palm, and has said it was one of the reasons they decided to stop. He says his performances are not slipping, he works on his voice with coaches and he will speak openly when he has to choose between stopping and surgery on his hand.
Their 17th and final album is the self-titled «Megadeth», released in January through Mustaine’s Tradecraft via BLKIIBLK and Frontiers Label Group. It went to No. 1 on the Billboard 200 with 73,000 units, the first chart-topper of their career. The production was handled by Chris Rakestraw, who had also worked on 2016’s «Dystopia». Mustaine has said that afterwards he will turn to unfinished song ideas.
