Amon Amarth celebrated the release of their new album «The Allfather Awakens» with a small show at Zeche Carl in Essen, Germany, on 6 October 2026, where they played three new songs live for the first time.

The venue holds 500 people, a far cry from the arenas and festival stages the Swedes usually fill. Fan-shot footage from the night made its way online.

According to Setlist.fm, they played 12 songs. They opened with the new single «Gjallarhorn» and performed «The Allfather Awakes» and «Eight Legs Of Thunder» live for the first time. They also brought back «For Victory Or Death», which they hadn’t played since 2015.

«The Allfather Awakens» came out on 2 October 2026 via Metal Blade Records. It’s their 13th album since the 1998 debut «Once Sent From The Golden Hall».

The recording took place in two sessions months apart, at producer Jacob Hansen’s studio in Denmark: the first in spring 2025 and the last completed in March 2026. This time they wrote while on tour, finishing each song before moving to the next.

Guitarist Olavi Mikkonen explained that they worked on one song at a time, recording drums, guitars and vocals until each was finished, and only then moving on. They also changed their guitar tone, going back from 5150 amps to Marshalls. The god Odin once again runs through the lyrics, though the band says it isn’t a concept album. The cover is a portrait of Odin by Tom Thiel, who has painted other covers for them.

Amon Amarth begin their UK and European tour on 9 October 2026 at the O2 Apollo in Manchester, with a new stage production inspired by Odin’s Golden Hall. The tour ends on 15 November at Sala Tejo in Lisbon.
