«Voidlit» by UMUS in full

The project formed around 2024 around guitarist V. and drummer R., who also play in Crust (extreme post-metal) and in the drone/doom project Sönma. «Voidlit» was recorded as a trio and is their first complete work.

The album follows five stages: loss leads to inner collapse, and each track leaves less behind than the one before. The pieces move slowly, weighted by funeral death/doom and by passages that open up into wider sonic landscapes.

For anyone following the atmospheric side of post-metal, Shy, Low’s «Purity Spiral» and Grant The Sun’s «Biomes» work on the same logic as the quietest passages here.

The sound rests on slow, repeating guitar patterns and drums that act more as an underground current than as a rhythm section. Over them lie atmospheric layers and vocals buried in the mix, holding the listener at a distance from anything familiar.

The title «Voidlit» captures the theme: a light falling on emptiness. The music does not tell events, it builds a state — which is the heart of funeral doom when it works through atmosphere rather than weight alone.
