Deep Purple have released the video for «Splat!», the song that gives its title to their latest album.
The album came out on 3 July on earMUSIC and the title track is the fourth single, after «Diablo», «Arrogant Boy» and «Guilt Trippin’». Keith Urban plays second guitar on «Diablo».
“`When the record was announced in May, the label presented it as Deep Purple’s heaviest album in years. The idea came from Ian Gillan: the subject is the end of humanity, but not as destruction — as a change into something beyond physical existence.
It is their sixth record with producer Bob Ezrin, who has worked with Kiss, Pink Floyd, Alice Cooper and Lou Reed. Ezrin has done all their studio albums since «Now What?!» in 2013, followed by «inFinite» (2017), «Whoosh!» (2020), «Turning To Crime» (2021) and «=1» (2024). «Turning To Crime» was recorded remotely, from their homes, during the pandemic.
The current line-up is Gillan, Roger Glover on bass, Ian Paice on drums, Don Airey on keyboards and Simon McBride on guitar, who took over from Steve Morse in 2022.
The European tour opened in Sofia, Bulgaria, in September, with songs from «Splat!» in the set. Earlier, on the August US tour, Ritchie Blackmore came on stage at the Jones Beach Theater in Wantagh, New York, for «Smoke On The Water». It was his first appearance with them since 1993.
Deep Purple formed in England in 1968 and, according to their label, have sold more than 120 million records. The classic Mark II line-up — Gillan, Glover, Paice, Jon Lord and Blackmore — recorded «Machine Head» and the 1972 live album «Made In Japan». They were inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame in 2016.
