Tobias Forge, the mind behind Ghost, is bringing Repugnant back to life — the death metal band he had before Ghost — for a new video inside the horror film «V/H/S/Mixtape». The vocals on the new recording belong to Erik Danielsson of Watain, an old friend of Forge.
“`«V/H/S/Mixtape» is the ninth film in the «V/H/S» horror anthology and arrived on Shudder on 9 October 2026. It was already known that Forge was involved in the project, alongside Gwar. When the film came out, audiences discovered that his contribution is a new video for Repugnant’s «Premature Burial», directed by Forge himself.
«Premature Burial» first came out in the early 2000s, when Forge was Repugnant’s singer. In the new version the vocals are handled by Danielsson.
According to the film’s credits, the guitars are played by Forge and Gottfrid Åhman, with Gustaf Lindström on bass and Thomas Daun on drums. Åhman, Lindström and Daun had all passed through earlier incarnations of Repugnant, while Lindström was also a member of Ghost in their early years.
Forge formed Repugnant in Sweden in 1998. The band broke up in 2004 and their only album, «Epitome Of Darkness», came out two years later. In the early 2010s he brought them back briefly, before devoting himself to Ghost. It is not yet clear whether the new recording is a one-off or the start of more Repugnant activity.
The release comes during a pause for Ghost, which began after the «Skeletour» ended in Los Angeles in February 2026. In August 2026 Forge said he would not push himself to make a new Ghost album if he had nothing to say, and that he planned to spend his time at home with projects outside the band. In September 2026 there were reports that he was recording a new death metal project, without confirming whether it was connected to Repugnant.
