Guns N’ Roses had discussed a permanent run of shows at Las Vegas’ Sphere before their latest US tour, but in the end they did not do it. Slash made the revelation, speaking to Audacy’s Abe Kanan.
“`What made him think about it seriously was a conversation with the Eagles’ Joe Walsh: the venue is not set up so that you can stack amps and play the way a band normally plays, since the weight there falls on production and visuals. The subject came up before the 2026 US tour and the band chose to do a regular tour instead of focusing on that.
He did not close the door for the future, but admitted that the format would be difficult for Guns N’ Roses. «It might happen at some point, but it is not something I am pursuing, because it feels far too controlled to me», he said. He added that he is looking forward to seeing Metallica there and explained that they use amps that are not real, something his band does not do.
When Kanan brought up the «No Repeat Weekend» — different setlists on the Thursday and the Saturday — Slash replied that he already knew about them from Lars Ulrich and that he likes the way Metallica always do something new.
It is not the first time he has voiced reservations. In October 2025 he told SiriusXM’s «Trunk Nation With Eddie Trunk» that the Sphere is not friendly to rock the way it has been set up and that a band there has to build a large part of the show around the visuals.
Walsh’s Eagles started their own run in September 2024, while U2, who opened the venue in 2023, have also played there. Metallica opened «Life Burns Faster» on 1 October 2026 and have scheduled 24 shows across 12 weekends until 13 March 2027.
Guns N’ Roses played stadiums in Europe and North America in 2026. Shows remain in India, Indonesia, Singapore, Australia and New Zealand in November and December, with the last stop at Eden Park in Auckland on 17 December, and Slash has said that in 2027 the band will stay off the road to work on its unreleased material.
