«Orgasmatron» is the seventh album by British band Motörhead, released in July 1986 via GWR, the label the band set up themselves after parting ways with Bronze.
“`Country: United Kingdom
Style: Heavy Metal
For fans of: Judas Priest, Black Sabbath, Venom
It is the band’s first album with two guitarists, Phil Campbell and Michael «Würzel» Burston, and the only studio record with Pete Gill on drums. Together with Lemmy on vocals and bass, Motörhead became a four-piece for the first time.
The album marked the band’s comeback after «Another Perfect Day» in 1983, which had impressed critics but sold moderately. It was the first record they put out on their own label, after three years without a recording contract.
Production was handled by Bill Laswell, and the sessions lasted eleven days at Master Rock Studios in London. The album reached number 21 on the UK chart and gave the band a fresh start. The original title the band had in mind was «Riding with the Driver».
The sound features dense, deep bass and a thick wall of guitars, topped by Lemmy’s unmistakable vocals. He himself was not satisfied with the mix, but the album produced some of the band’s heaviest songs.
Standouts include the title track «Orgasmatron», «Deaf Forever», «Doctor Rock» and «Mean Machine». On the cover, Joe Petagno painted the Snaggletooth mascot as a charging locomotive.
On 24 September 2026, an anniversary edition for the album’s 40 years was announced, featuring a new mix by Cameron Webb and a new remaster of the original mix, along with unreleased outtakes.
