On November 21, 2014, Varathron released «Untrodden Corridors of Hades» through Agonia Records. It was their fifth album and the first after signing to the label, in a new phase for the band.
“`Country: Greece
Style: Black Metal
For fans of: Rotting Christ, Necromantia, Septicflesh
On the album’s line-up you hear Stefan Necroabyssious on vocals, Achilleas C. and Sotiris on guitars, Stratos on bass and Haris on drums. The sound combines classic Greek black metal with heavy metal melodies, dark doom passages and a modern production that gives space to every instrument.
The album has seven tracks, from the opening «Kabalistic Invocation of Solomon» and «Realm of Obscure» to «Death Chant» and «Delve Into The Past». The flow is steady from start to finish, with the tracks building atmosphere instead of rushing.
It came out in several formats, among them digipack CD, box set and limited coloured vinyl editions, and it was the first step in the band’s long collaboration with Agonia Records.
The album arrived at a time when the band were pushing back into the spotlight, with shows and tours in Greece and abroad. The production is the cleanest and strongest of any of their previous work, without losing the dark atmosphere that defines them.
«Untrodden Corridors of Hades» sounds more modern than their previous albums, with a clean sound that lets every instrument stand out, without losing its weight. It is a work that shows the band looking forward.
Our take
With «Untrodden Corridors of Hades» Varathron entered a new era without losing their identity. It is an album full of atmosphere and melody, showing a band with a clear plan for what comes next.
