Turning the page on what promises to be a bold creative chapter, the pioneers of Hunnu Rock, THE HU — Galaa (morin khuur, throat singing), Jaya (tumur khuur, tsuur, throat singing), Enkush (morin khuur, throat singing) and Temka (tovshuur, throat singing) — announce their upcoming third full-length album, HUN , out on July 24 via Better Noise Music .
Alongside the album news, the band released a hypnotic new single titled “Lost Soul” (featuring Jonny Hawkins of NOTHING MORE) . It marks the first collaboration between the gold-certified global phenomenon and NOTHING MORE .
Throughout the song, the groove-filled sonic landscape of the percussion resembles the extremes of Mongolia’s volatile and relentless climate. A head-nodding riff spins beneath the powerful lyrics, giving way to a melodic chorus from Hawkins , who sings the infectious refrain, “Born to be a lost soul”. These English-language statements connect in a flawless barrage with traditional Mongolian chants, joining styles and cultures in an explosion of energy that breaks the limits.
Echoing beyond all borders, the song proclaims a message of resilience, vigor and strength that translates positively into any language and anywhere in the world.
About the song, Galaa comments: “We discover our surprises one by one. Hunnu Rock transcends culture and in that sense, we created “Lost Soul” with Jonny Hawkins . Not getting lost on the journey of your life, not losing your values and crossing through life and having the courage to face life’s obstacles are messages we send to our fans through this song “Lost Soul” and our next album, HUN “.
Hawkins adds: “I’m very excited to collaborate with a band as devoted to their art as THE HU . It’s like nothing I’ve done before”.
HUN finds THE HU , who were originally championed by NPR in 2019, at the peak of their power so far. They expand the scope of their signature Hunnu Rock with 11 tracks steeped in the tradition and legend of Mongolia, but enriched with global ambition. It’s as epic, exciting and enigmatic as it gets and it opens the gate to their world.
“We took our time to do it right and we’re very happy that we’re almost ready to release what we’ve been working on for the last few years,” says the band. “Now, we’re also focusing on the shows and we’re working on a brand new setlist. We want to play bigger venues so we can do extensive production and bring some amazing elements of our culture and present these ideas to our fans. And, aside from our third album, we already have some amazing ideas for another album!”
