The Finnish masters of melodic death metal, Insomnium, have released their brand-new song titled “Shadowlife”. It’s the first taste of their next, tenth overall, album, which will be released this October. The band keeps its classic character, but dares to explore new musical paths. In the track, power meets sensitivity and darkness blends harmoniously with light. The impressive cover art has been handled by the well-known artist Travis Smith.
Speaking about the track, singer and bassist Niilo Sevänen said that “Shadowlife” puts us in the general mood of the record. The lyrics speak of loss and the bitter truth that youth, love and beauty are lost with the passage of time. It leaves us with a feeling that teeters between acceptance and nostalgia.
For his part, guitarist Markus Vanhala explained that he wanted to write a dynamic and catchy track to open the band’s new chapter. He assured fans that darker and deeper songs will follow. Because this is their tenth work, they wanted to honor their past while adding fresh elements to their sound.
