“`Ka’aper appeared almost out of nowhere, and within two years they managed to deliver a debut that shows a band with a clear identity and a serious artistic direction. Based in Cyprus with members from Russia and Ukraine, the outfit proves that music can unite people who come from completely different realities.
When Gods Walked The Earth leans on the allure of ancient Egypt, though not with the classic “touristy” approach. Ka’aper don’t merely reenact historical events — they use the Egyptian pantheon as a gateway to talk about existence, death, rebirth and the eternal question of what lies beyond the end. Their subject matter touches more on metaphysics than on history.
Musically, the record moves through modern melodic death metal, with a strong atmosphere and cinematic aesthetic. The riffs have weight and a clear structure, while the keyboards don’t work as a mere backdrop — they build images, create space and give the album an archaic, ceremonial aura. The influences of Hypocrisy and Dark Tranquillity are evident, but the band imitates no one. It has its own way of combining melody and aggression.

The ritual heart of the record
“Lament for Osiris” is the album’s crowning moment. The use of clean female vocals gives it a dramatic, almost liturgical dimension, while the contrast with the brutal vocals creates a tension that lingers. It’s the track where Ka’aper clearly show that they can step beyond the narrow confines of the genre without losing their character.
Careful orchestration and mature production
The record has excellent flow. No track overstays its welcome, no idea is stretched without reason. The progressive and symphonic touches are there, but used sparingly — like subtle layers that add depth, not something that will steal attention from the death metal core.

A lyrical approach with substance
Ka’aper use Egyptian mythology as a tool to talk about humanity. Mortality, transition, purpose, the cycle of life and death — all presented with seriousness and without exaggeration. The result is an album that isn’t confined to an “Egyptian” style, but acquires philosophical depth.
