REVIEW | Metal Territory

Voidrium are among those bands that win you over from the very first moment. Aquae Inferis is a black metal album that stands firmly on tradition, but at the same time has its own character, its own atmosphere and a theme that puts you right inside the Mediterranean, in the era of the Roman Empire and the myths that surround it.

The album opens with traditional, sharp riffs that have this Mediterranean aura — a sense of the ancient world, stone, sea and fire. The blast beats crash like waves on rocks, with constant tempo changes and tension that never drops for a moment. The drums have that “primeval” strike that brings every track to life.

The bass works almost independently, creating its own melodic line and a ritualistic backdrop that ties in perfectly with the concept. It’s one of the few times the bass on a black metal album has such a strong personality.

On vocals, the singer moves in mid‑range rasps that recall a banshee, with high screams that slice the air. It’s one of the most distinctive performances I’ve heard this year — wild, clear, full of passion.

Aquae Inferis is a journey. Mythology, history, ancient gods, rivers of Hades, rituals and battles. The atmosphere is so strong that you can almost see caves, waterfalls and ancient gates in front of you. The cover captures it perfectly: it looks like an exploration of an underground world, with light falling on water and stone.
