The Grammy Museum has published the official video of its conversation with Megadeth and former MTV VJ Matt Pinfield, held on 24 September in Los Angeles.
“`Dave Mustaine, bassist James LoMenzo, drummer Dirk Verbeuren and guitarist Teemu Mäntysaari took part on the museum’s Ray Charles Rooftop Terrace, with a special performance at the end.
The event fell on the 36th anniversary of «Rust In Peace» — the album built by the classic line-up of Mustaine, David Ellefson, Marty Friedman and Nick Menza.
The four talked about their self-titled 17th studio album, which Mustaine has said will be the last from Megadeth. Earlier this year it became their first record to reach No. 1 on the Billboard 200.
Memories of the «Rust In Peace» era, the tour with Iron Maiden and the members’ thoughts on the final album had already been published earlier this month — while Ellefson also spoke about how he hears the current line-up on stage.
Verbeuren also explained why the band’s sound still reaches new listeners: «When this music came out in the mid-80s it was a new genre, more intense, faster, more technical». He remembered buying «Peace Sells» at a flea market at 14 or 15 because something about it felt familiar.
