At the Merriweather Post Pavilion in Maryland, as part of the Power To The People Festival, Black Sabbath fans got a big surprise. Geezer Butler took the stage with Jack Sabbath, the outfit Jack Black put together to honour Black Sabbath, and played War Pigs with them on Saturday 3 October 2026.
“`Behind Jack Sabbath there is no ordinary tribute band. The group features young musicians, children of well-known names from the metal scene: on guitar Roman Morello, son of Tom Morello, on bass Revel Ian, son of Anthrax’s Scott Ian, on drums Yoyoka Soma and on keys Hugo Weiss.
Their set was short: only three songs. First came Ozzy Osbourne’s Mr. Crowley, second The Wizard, while the finale belonged to War Pigs. There Geezer Butler picked up the bass and gave the crowd the loudest moment of the night.
Butler is one of the people who shaped Black Sabbath’s sound and lyrics. Seeing him play his own song with younger musicians who grew up listening to those tracks gave the performance its particular weight.
On social media the bassist singled out the young drummer Yoyoka Soma, calling her «an amazing drummer».
Tom Morello had taken on the organisation of the festival and managed to gather a lot of big names. Among them Foo Fighters, Bruce Springsteen, Dave Matthews, Joan Baez, Public Enemy, Serj Tankian and Cypress Hill, along with several more artists.
Jack Sabbath played three songs in total. For the crowd, though, the night stayed special thanks to one thing: Geezer Butler, who took the bass on War Pigs.
