The Norwegian symphonic black metal veterans, Dimmu Borgir, released “Ascent” , the second single from their upcoming tenth studio album “Grand Serpent Rising”. The track was released on streaming platforms at midnight, while an official music video will premiere later.
“Grand Serpent Rising” comes out on May 22, 2026, via Nuclear Blast Records. It marks the band’s first full-length album since 2018’s “Eonian”, ending an eight-year wait between albums. The main single “Ulvgjeld & Blodsodel” was released along with the album announcement in late March.
Founding members Shagrath and Silenoz handled all the music and orchestrations on the record, with Silenoz writing every lyric. Additionally, the album was recorded in Gothenburg at Studio Fredman with producer Fredrik Nordström, marking his fourth collaboration with the band after “Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropia”, “Death Cult Armageddon” and “In Sorte Diaboli”.

The line-up also features the new guitarist Kjell Åge “Damage” Karlsen, who joined in 2025 after Galder’s departure the previous year. Meanwhile, “Ascent” appears as the second track on a list of thirteen songs.
Dimmu Borgir also appeared in October on the “In League With Satan” tour as co-headliners together with Behemoth, with Dark Funeral as special guests throughout Europe and the United Kingdom.
