REVIEW : (Written by Kostas) What Wandar achieve with “Tiefe Erde” is catching you off guard from the very first minute. They fool you with the now-classic piano intro of “Bedrängnis”, only to throw a sonic punch to the face immediately after with “Trug”. This blend of pure power, rage and an urgent, suffocating despair is now their signature, and they do it in such a natural way that it really leaves you speechless.

Musically, the album is a constant back-and-forth of emotions. Just when you’re hearing cinematic, atmospheric passages like on “…Nächtlich”, you’re suddenly dragged into a depressive frantic rhythm on “Drangsal” or drowned by the dragging tempos of “Erden”. They masterfully marry the extremes: the fast with the slow, rage with depression. This is exactly what modern, extreme metal is, and Wandar force us to experience it on our own skin.
