A post from the Greek fan club U2 Fan Club Desire / Hellas sparked the discussion: according to the club, The Edge and Adam Clayton confirmed it to a member who traveled as far as Dublin: U2 are coming to Greece.
The club wrote in English that «it’s official» — the two musicians are said to have told a member of theirs, with no further detail.
There is no official announcement from the band’s side yet, and neither a date, nor a venue, nor a promoter has been made known. Until something comes from the band themselves, the information rests on what the fan club reported.
The timing does give the story weight, though. U2 recently marked 50 years as a band, returned to Dublin and played two surprise shows on Friday, September 25: one at Mount Temple Comprehensive School — where their story began — and one from the balcony of Bewley’s Café on Grafton Street, in front of thousands of people.
On November 13 «Carnaval De Luz» arrives, their first studio album of new material in nine years — and all of this has fueled talk about their upcoming concerts.
In Greece, U2 have appeared twice: in Thessaloniki in 1997, on the PopMart Tour, and at the OAKA in 2010, on the U2 360° Tour. If the information is confirmed, we’re talking about a return after 16 years.
For now we’re sticking to what the fan club reported from Dublin, with our eyes on the official announcement.
