«The Lord of Steel» is Manowar‘s eleventh record. It was first released as a download on June 16, 2012 and a few days later, on June 26, as a limited CD edition with the British magazine Metal Hammer. The production is by Joey DeMaio and the cover art by Ken Kelly.
Country: USA
Genre: Heavy metal, power metal
For fans of: Black Sabbath, Saxon, Iron Maiden
The record marks a change of course: it moves away from the symphonic sound of «Gods of War» and returns to the style of «Louder Than Hell», with the production of «Thunder in the Sky». It was released in two versions, with the limited «Hammer / Steel» edition running 47 minutes and the retail one 55. The mix and mastering were done at Wisseloord Studios by Ronald Prent and Darcy Proper. Among the tracks are the title track «The Lord of Steel», «Manowarriors», «Born in a Grave», «Righteous Glory» and «El Gringo».
Our take
It’s the sparest record of their later period: more immediate tracks, fewer orchestras, a return to the basic recipe. For those who had grown tired of the big concepts, here they found the band in a more familiar form.
