Tom Morello honoured his former Audioslave bandmate Chris Cornell at the Power To The People festival, playing «Like A Stone» alongside System Of A Down singer Serj Tankian.

The appearance happened on Saturday, 3 October, at the Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, Maryland. Tankian came on stage for two songs: first «Adjourn It», the joint single the pair put out earlier this year, and then the Audioslave track in Cornell’s memory.

Introducing the song, Morello told the crowd: «If he were with us, he would be with us».

The festival was streamed live and free on MS NOW’s YouTube channel, and professionally filmed footage of the performance has since appeared online.

«Like A Stone» is on Audioslave’s self-titled 2002 debut and came out as a single in 2003, becoming one of their best-known songs. Cornell formed Audioslave with Morello, bassist Tim Commerford and Rage Against The Machine drummer Brad Wilk. They released three albums — Audioslave (2002), Out Of Exile (2005) and Revelations (2006) — before Cornell left in 2007.

Cornell, who also fronted Soundgarden, died by suicide in May 2017, at the age of 52.

«Adjourn It» features Tankian on vocals, while the main riff was written by Morello’s teenage son, Roman Morello. Morello released his new solo album, «Everyone Gets Everything They Want», on 25 September.

Power To The People also featured Bruce Springsteen, Foo Fighters, Dave Matthews, Joan Baez and Public Enemy, along with a number of rock and metal musicians such as Geezer Butler, Scott Ian and Matt Cameron. Ticket proceeds went to the voting-rights organisations VoteRiders and HeadCount.
