Kraanerg is the project of Nat Bergrin from the United States, and «Aria for Labellum Tongues» is their second album, released independently on 4 September 2026. Bergrin is credited with the composition, the piano, the guitars and the vocals, and around him he gathers a large group of musicians.
Country: United States
Style: Avant-Prog / Brutal Prog / Avant-garde Metal (clean vocals)
For fans of: black midi, John Zorn, Sigh, NoMeansNo
The album’s sound is built on piano, saxophone and vibraphone, woven together with aggressive, nervous drums and jagged guitars, inside long structures that keep evolving. Bergrin, a classically trained pianist, ties the DIY punk spirit to romantic composition, while the clean vocals are the new element in the band’s arsenal. In the lyrics, people turn into orchids and mosses, while the barons of capital strip the earth of every trace of life, in a clash between nature and man over the savannahs and plains of Texas.
The album opens with «Amargosa Raga» and a descending, dissonant guitar, over which clipped drums, bright piano chords and a menacing saxophone come in, up to a cinematic climax with double kick, vocal melodies and violins. The title track «Aria for Labellum Tongues» is even more suffocating, while «Blessings in Silk, Saffron, and Naran-Ji» and «Visible to the Wrong Faces» provide the calmest moments, with delicate piano and ethereal guitars. The catchiest track is «Iron Sign of the Masdevallia», while «Anguloa Virginalis (Um Rosto de Mulher)» holds a piano, avant-jazz interlude. Playing are Jason Roe (drums, vibraphone), D.L. (guitars), Markov Soroka (keys), Maximilian Jacobs (violin) and Jack Dell and Sydney Smith (saxophones), with guests Dom Grande, Jules Liebenthal and Russell Rode.
