The Emerald Dawn – The Land, the Sea, the Air (Volume II) | Metal Territory

The British The Emerald Dawn return with “The Land, the Sea, the Air (Volume II)”, the follow-up to their 2025 album of the same name — an environmental love letter to the natural beauty of their homeland, released symbolically on World Nature Conservation Day (July 28, 2026). Their sound is built on classic rock influences and more contemporary elements, with progressive, psychedelic and folk rock coexisting.

The listen

Unlike other bands that split their influences track by track, Emerald Dawn run them through the middle of every song: their compositions alternate spacey, atmospheric keys — often with nature sounds — with drawn-out improvisational solos. The core harmonies are written in advance, but much of the record sounds almost improvised, with one instrument at a time taking the lead.

“Song of the Rainforest” opens with a Led Zeppelin-esque guitar solo, while Tree Stewart’s voice comes in powerfully on “Rivers of Tears” and takes on a more traditional role at the close of “Paradise.” The album isn’t available on the main streaming platforms — the most accessible way to hear it is the live-in-studio video on YouTube and Bandcamp.

The production is deliberately rough, with a vintage feel: the keys sometimes sound like stock MIDI sounds and the voice is wild and raw. Emerald Dawn do best as a jam band — where their solos are unleashed and the nature sounds become psychedelic soundscapes. The spontaneity and chemistry of the four musicians is impressive, but within the framework of a digital album their raw aesthetic sounds somewhat amateurish. A record that is done a disservice outside its live, intimate setting — and one that devotees of the genre will appreciate more as a jam experience.
