Stormkeep, the symphonic black metal quartet from Denver, present their new video for “The Black Dragons Of Iswylm”, the lead single from their highly anticipated second album “The Nocturnes Of Iswylm”, out on Friday, June 12 via Vesperian GmbH / Metal Blade Records.
The track is the core of the new record and comes with the most cinematic and ambitious video the band has ever created.
A video that changes the game for Stormkeep
The direction is signed by Michael Ragen, the award-winning creator behind Blood Incantation’s impressive 20-minute short film “The Stargate”, as well as a collaborator of Guillermo del Toro on Cabinet of Curiosities: The Viewing.
With “The Black Dragons Of Iswylm”, Stormkeep acquire for the first time a fully developed visual identity. Ragen brings the band’s aesthetic to the big screen with:
- cinematic storytelling
- fantastical landscapes
- a dark atmosphere
- world‑building reminiscent of epic fantasy
For the first time, the band members appear as mythical figures from the world of Elda, embodying the characters that until now lived only inside their music.

The album “The Nocturnes Of Iswylm”: Stormkeep’s most mature moment
The new album continues the story that began on “Tales Of Othertime”, but it isn’t a simple continuation. Stormkeep explore more dark, psychological and melodic paths, leaving behind part of the dungeon synth aesthetic for something deeper and more multi-layered.
The result is a record:
- more dynamic
- more melodic
- more atmospheric
- but always utterly Stormkeep
Production & Artwork
The album was recorded by the band itself in collaboration with Michael Zech (Secrets of the Moon, Dark Fortress, The Ruins of Beverast), while mastering was handled by Arthur Rizk (Blood Incantation, Power Trip, Worm).
The cover was painted by Simon Bisley, known for his distinctive, imposing style, while additional artwork was created by Valnoir (Ulver, Paradise Lost, Amorphis).
