Sepulcrum return with Lacerator, an album that clearly shows the band has stepped up a level. Their death metal remains deeply rooted in the late 80’s / early 90’s school, but here the intensity, the detail and the compositional maturity rise noticeably. The album is full of riffs — not just many, but well-crafted, with character and personality.

The title track “Lacerator” opens with a solo that kicks the door down and comes in with momentum. The band combines Death‑Human aesthetics with the ferocity of the Imperial Doom / Retribution eras, but without sounding like a copy. The result is a track you press repeat on before you’ve even made it to the next one.

“The Seven Gates” has a riff at ~28’’ that sticks in your mind instantly — a neck‑wrecker that builds groove and intensity. The surprise comes with Nicolás Espinoza’s extended bass solo, something that isn’t common in old school death metal. The mix gives the bass room, and it works wonderfully alongside the Mortem‑like violence that unfolds.

Nicolás Miranda on vocals has a stronger presence compared to the previous album. “Into the Infected Bowels” is characteristic: death/thrash intro, Schuldiner‑style runs, Obituary‑like mid‑tempo push and a return to the initial theme. The band creates its own OSDM vocabulary, moving from late 80’s death/thrash to early 90’s prog‑death with naturalness.

In the second half of the album the band shows even more character. “Phrenetic Psychophony” is fire, while “Entropic Decomposition” stands out with a more complex structure. “Let Me Desecrate You” and “Multideformation” close the album ideally, with nice interplay between bass and guitar and lead solos that add extra color.

The production has an authentic old school feeling, without sounding muddy or sloppy. The cover art by Nox Fragor Art fits the style perfectly: violent, dark, primal. All together they compose an album that honors death metal’s past but doesn’t stay stuck in it.

Lacerator is full of riffs, full of energy and full of personality. Sepulcrum show that they can stand comfortably next to names that defined the genre. For lovers of old school death metal, this album is a real gift.
