Crypta are turning a new page with “A Portrait of Decay”, the first song to show the new lineup of the Brazilian death metal band and give a taste of the sound they are preparing. The release comes with a video.
In April the band announced Victoria Villarreal as a permanent guitarist, completing the four-piece together with Fernanda Lira on bass and vocals, Luana Dametto on drums and Tainá Bergamaschi on guitar.
The track hits like an aggressive death metal steamroller and is about disconnecting from reality as a way to endure pain and suffering. It was recorded in Belgium in June, with engineering, mixing and mastering by Yarne Heylen at Project Zero Studio, and the artwork was made by Brazilian artist Marcos Miller. It is out now on all the major streaming platforms and will also come as a strictly limited 7-inch vinyl edition, with Fernanda Lira’s vocals keeping the sound at its darkest point.
The video was written by the band’s drummer. “It is at once an almost poetic contrast to the harsh death metal sound and a cinematic rendering of the lyrics: an airy, almost dreamlike landscape that shows a person’s true state, clear thoughts and bright emotions slowly fading with time and with what changes around them,” says Luana Dametto.
The release comes shortly before Crypta’s North American tour, together with Arch Enemy, The Black Dahlia Murder, Septicflesh and Thrown Into Exile, which kicks off on October 5 in Riverside, California.
