Critical Defiance came out of Villa Alemana, Chile in 2010 and in fifteen years have become a steady and hate-filled force of thrash metal, with speed, aggression and technical precision. «Rivers of Blood» is their fourth album and is released on September 25, 2026 by Dying Victims Productions, on CD and vinyl.
Country: Chile
Genre: Thrash metal
For fans of: old-school thrash metal — from the Chilean underground scene to the Bay Area years
The album runs 32 minutes and eight tracks and is the most focused they have put out: fast thrash with darker atmospheres, instrumental tensions and a clear dramatic flow. Sebastián Palominos’s production is clean and sharp, but keeps the immediacy of the underground.
The track order works like a script. «Red Omen» opens with classical guitar and a threatening mood, «Innate to Kill» throws the first attack, «The Feeling Destroyer» shows their technical and compositional work, the title track «Rivers of Blood» slows down and goes into slower thrash with more liberating lyrics, while «Valparaíso» — the album’s most distinctive track — joins violence with blood, memory and the decline of their city.
In the second half, from the tension and darkness of «Dead Tongues» we move to the short instrumental «Ceremony of the Final Call» and to the close with «Glorify War». Compared to «The Search Won’t Fall» of 2024, the ideas here are more tightly bound and the album doesn’t sound like a collection of songs, but like one single blow.
What won us over is the balance between speed and atmosphere: the bass is clearly audible under the guitars, the acoustic passages and the soundscapes tie the flow together, and when the band slows down to build tension it does it with confidence. There are also moments where the riffs stay close to the genre’s clichés, without that spoiling the overall picture. It’s their most mature album: old-school in soul, tight and modern in execution.
