Founded in 1991, AFI is an American rock band based in Ukiah, California. Singer Davey Havok, drummer and backing vocalist Adam Carson, bassist, backing vocalist and keyboardist Hunter Burgan, and guitarist, backing vocalist and keyboardist Jade Puget have been members since 1998. The only remaining original members are Havok and Carson. They started out as a hardcore punk band and then explored a variety of genres, such as horror punk, post-hardcore, emo, alternative rock and gothic rock. Twelve studio albums, eleven EPs, one live album and one DVD have been released by AFI . With their fifth album, “The Art of Drowning” (2000), which reached number 174 on the Billboard 200, the band enjoyed its first significant commercial success.
“Sing the Sorrow” (2003), their sixth album, which reached number five on the Billboard 200 and stayed on the chart for 51 weeks, was their next big success. The popular singles « Girl’s Not Grey » and « Silver and Cold », both of which reached number seven on America’s Hot Modern Rock Tracks chart in 2003, helped promote the album. Also released as a single, « The Leaving Song Pt. II» reached number 16 on the chart. With over 1.26 million copies sold by September 2009, “Sing the Sorrow” is AFI‘s best-selling album and was certified Platinum by the RIAA in 2006.
