Ad Finem Omnia return with Senectus Viae, a second album that continues the thread of the debut but with a more personal, more inward direction. With Ricardo Araya now out of the band, Pablo Vera takes on all instruments and songwriting, while keeping the core of the sound: Franco‑Finnish melodic black metal, dramatic, fluid, with guitars that weave long phrases and vocals more acidic, more forward in the mix.
The album opens with the “Intro”, a short ceremonial introduction that leads into “The Hermit and the Wind”, one of the strongest tracks: melodies that rise and fall like tidal waves, clean vocals that add an almost mystical dimension, and riffing that recalls the most contemplative side of Sargeist. “Inner Decay” and “Anguish and Revelation” continue with similar emotional intensity, where the guitar works as the main narrative voice.
“Where Existence Fails” breaks the flow a little with a stronger atmosphere and clean vocals, while “Abolish God” works as a bridge to the project’s early days. The title track “Senectus Viae” closes the album with a sense of triumphant bitterness: fast, urgent, almost as if running toward the end of a journey that had to be completed.
The album doesn’t try to discover something new; it does offer a more mature, more personal version of the melodic black metal it serves. Its strength lies in the connection between riff and emotion, in conveying an inner journey of endurance, decay and final acceptance. For those who love contemplative, melodic black metal, Senectus Viae is a careful, substantial continuation.
