Nightwish have released a live video for “Tribal”, filmed at the Ziggo Dome in Amsterdam in 2022, as a new taste of the band’s 30th anniversary collection, The Greatest 30 Years On Earth.
The song was on the 2020 album Human. :II: Nature. The concert was recorded on November 27, 2022, on the “Human. :II: Nature. World Tour”, and is one of the two full shows included in the release.
The collection comes out on December 11 via Nuclear Blast Records. The band had announced it in August, giving at the time a live video for “7 Days To The Wolves” from the same show in Amsterdam.
In a new statement, the band says the “30-year vortex” is still gathering material: new interviews, a documentary, reworked songs from “Islanders Arms”, photos and footage from the Human. :II: Nature tour concerts in the Netherlands and Finland.
Beyond Amsterdam, the release features sound and picture from the “return” concert in Kitee, Finland, at Rantakenttä, on June 16, 2023 — the second-to-last show of the tour. There are also tracks from the 2021 virtual concerts, in an imaginary venue called Islanders Arms, reworked and remastered at Finnvox Studios.
The collection also includes a new documentary about founder, keyboardist and main songwriter Tuomas Holopainen, directed by Ville Lipiäinen, dealing with his work and the band’s history, along with photographic material from three decades of touring and recording.
Nightwish formed in Kitee in July 1996 by Holopainen and guitarist Emppu Vuorinen. The current lineup features singer Floor Jansen, multi-instrumentalist Troy Donockley, drummer Kai Hahto and bassist Jukka Koskinen.
The band hasn’t toured since the Human. :II: Nature tour ended, in June 2023, and didn’t play live for their tenth album, Yesterwynde (September 2024). When the collection was announced, Holopainen had said he had already written seven new songs and left open the possibility of a return to the stage in 2027.
